Our mission is to provide a source of mosquito control measures in an attempt to curtail the mosquito species which spread disease in our county. This is accomplished by chemical and natural means of larviciding or source reduction of habitats. Educating Levy County citizens in effective ways that reduce maturing larvae into adulthood around their homes is another measure which our department actively promotes.

Getting to know us...

Levy County's Department of Mosquito Control is under the direction of Mathew Weldon.  Matt has been with the county since 1994 and became Director of this department in 2006.

Under his care and direction, is our 5 man crew (Chuck, Russell, Roger, Stan and T.J.) who larvicide and spray within the  1413 sq miles of the county in an attempt to control the mosquito numbers.

Crew members can be identified by the county uniform worn and are also provided with a county Photo ID when hired.

Our employees are licensed through the State of Florida and attend classes to earn the required C.E.U.'s to keep the license active.  Sharing the information they have learned with our residents is rewarding not only to them but to all in our communities. The fight to control the mosquito population takes an effort from all of us. So, don't hesitate if given the chance to ask questions when crew members are in your area. We all benefit from knowledge!
